Wretched and at Home: An Academic Zine
A downloadable book
This is a zine of my paper from the 2024 Generation Analog conference created for the Research Zine jam.
This paper explores “playing to lose,” a collaborative role playing style where players prioritize narrative over victory, when used in the context of solo games like “The Wretched.” It examines the unique appeal of these solo experiences and the benefits of them, such as exploring themes of isolation and perseverance, that come from embracing a dramatic, often no-win scenario without a social audience.
